World Environment Day 2022
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations‘ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non-government organizations, communities, governments, and celebrities to advocate environmental causes. The theme for the current year is ‘Only One Earth.’
Guttula Harsha Vardhan is introducing the theme of the year. The event will take place at Rushikonda Beach, Visakhapatnam. Mr.Vardhan is a university student of Bioinformatics and a co-founder of Alleviators.
Climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste –evidence that Earth is “code red” is all around us and growing more ominous every day. The way out of this dilemma is to transform our economies and societies to make them inclusive, fair, and more connected with nature. We must shift from harming the planet to healing it.
The good news is the solutions and the technology exist and are increasingly affordable.
MAKING SUSTAINABLE LIVING THE DEFAULT OPTION
Truly transformative options need to be available, affordable and attractive to people so they can make better daily decisions. Many of these options can only be created by larger entities: national and sub-national governments, financial institutions, businesses, international organizations, and other organizations with the power to rewrite the rules, frame our ambition and open up new horizons.
